Consequences of violence

What about the children in all this?

Domestic violence affects both women and children. They can see, hear and feel tension in the home. Sometimes they themselves may be insulted, beaten or belittled. Some children may also be used to spy on or control their mother. As a result, it’s clear that this has an impact on them. This is why, through our youth interventions, we pay particular attention to the consequences that this violence has on your children, as well as on your role as a mother.

The consequences can be different depending on the child’s experience, age, personality and temperament.

Here are some of them:

  • Frequent nightmares
  • Anxiety, anguish, nervousness
  • Guilt
  • Feeling responsible for the violence
  • Physical injuries
  • Difficulties at school
  • Aggressivity, excessive anger
  • Loss of self-esteem
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Physical complaints: nausea, stomach aches, headaches, etc.
